Bolton: Man threatened to 'slit the throats' of people after a night out

A man pulled a knife out at the home of three women in Bolton he was socialising with. Shaun Armitage took the mobile phones off all of them to make sure they did not call the police. Bolton Crown Court heard he was with the three of them in the town on August 28 this year. After they had been drinking a message was received suggesting someone would visit the property and attack them. Simon Barrett, prosecuting, said: “The four of them went to the bedroom. “Shaun Armitage was with them ok the bedroom, he had a kitchen knife, his intention was to defend himself should anybody come to the address.” But after this he became angry with those he was with. One of them punched his arm requesting that he be quiet. He then grabbed another of them and produced the knife. Armitage punched a mirror causing it to smash and his hand to bleed. Mr Barrett said: “He said if any of them rang the police he would come back and slit their throats. “He left taking their mobiles with him. “Police arrived at the address at 8am after receiving a call from a concerned neighbour. “They could see blood on the handle.” Atherton was later detained in Wiga. Armitage, 38, appeared in court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to affray during the incident. Samyra Ashraf, defending, said: “He requires assistance from the mental health team, he has a number of issues that will need to be addressed. “The defendant is remorseful for his actions.” The Honorary Recorder of Bolton Judge Martin Walsh said: “Any offence of affray when a person is present with a knife passes the custody threshold. “But I am satisfied the public interest coincides with your personal interest that you should receive professional help from psychiatric services.” He placed Armitage, from Rosedale Avenue, Atherton, on a community order to run for three years, ordered him to attend at 40 rehabilitation activity requirement days, complete a mental health treatment requirement for a year and undergo an alcohol absinthe report for 90 days.
