Tornado Watch Expires for Cook, DuPage, Kankakee and Will Counties

A tornado watch covering Cook, DuPage, Kankakee and Will counties expired Saturday evening following an extension hours earlier. The watch, which was first issued in the afternoon hours, initially included 17 Illinois counties, including 10 in the NBC 5 viewing area. As of Saturday evening, the watch had been canceled for Grundy, Kane, Kendall and McHenry counties. However, it was extended until 10 p.m. for Cook, DuPage, Kankakee and Will counties. Storms descended on the Chicago area in the afternoon, bringing heavy rains, hail and downing trees in multiple communities. The severe weather risk continued in the evening, as a tornado, damaging winds and more showers remained possible.
